About me…
Carol M. Donahue
I’m a life-long learner who thrives on connecting with others who share my passion, curiosity, and sense of urgency about improving reading instruction in our schools. After all, one’s well-being, our economy, and democracy depend on strong literacy skills.
With a strong belief that learning (and teaching!) can be fun and effective , I chose to pursue certification as a Wired For Reading (WFR) Specialist. This engaging evidence-based linguistic program resonated with me because of the way it incorporates story, drama, music, and elements of movement.
I believe in data, and the importance of using it to inform instruction and to share it with learners. With children, I refer to data as their personal GPS. Yes, children want to know where they are, where they need to be, and the map for arriving at their destination, i.e. meeting their reading goals.
My professional background is rich and varied with experience in business, education, and school counseling. I currently work as a reading interventionist at a Catholic school, and maintain a small private tutoring practice for children who struggle with reading and handwriting. In the school setting, I utilize a combination of structured literacy programs with enhancements from WFR which I use exclusively in my private practice.
